Evaluation of a single session digital ACT program for weight self-stigma

Click here to learn more about the study and see if you might be eligible
We are recruiting for a research study at USU that aims to test a new online self-guided program designed to help address the harmful effects of weight-related negative thoughts and self judgments (weight self-stigma). If you are eligible (based on completing a screening survey and phone interview), we will ask you to complete a baseline survey. You will then be randomly assigned to either complete the single session online program or to a waitlist condition, in which you will receive access to the program after 4 weeks. In either case, you will be asked to complete a 2-week and 4-week follow up survey.

If you choose to participate, you will be emailed a $10 digital Amazon gift card after completing the baseline survey, another $20 digital Amazon gift card after completing the 2-week follow up survey, and another $20 digital Amazon gift card for the 4-week follow up survey.

Each survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The online self-guided program will take approximately 45 minutes to complete, and is designed to be completed in one session. Thus, it will take approximately 2-3 hours in total to participate in this study.

In order to be eligible you must:
  • Be ≥ 18 years old
  • Currently be living in the U.S.
  • Self-report experiencing high weight self-stigma
  • Have a BMI of 25 or higher
  • Be able to access the internet via computer, mobile phone, or tablet
  • Have an interest in using a self-guided program for weight self-stigma
  • Be able to read, write, and understand English

This study takes place entirely online and does not require any face-to-face contact. For more information please click the link above or contact the study coordinator at [email protected].

The Principal Investigator for this study is Dr. Michael Levin ([email protected]) and this study has been approved by the USU IRB (#11218).
