ACT Guide for Chronic Health Conditions

This study is now closed. If you have any questions please contact Kory Klimczak  at [email protected].

We are recruiting for a research study at USU that aims to test a new six-session mental health program called ACT Guide for Chronic Health Conditions. If you are eligible and choose to participate, we will ask you to complete a brief screening survey and baseline survey. You will then be randomly assigned to either the treatment condition in which you will work on the ACT Guide program over the next 6 weeks, or to a waitlist condition in which you will be provided with the ACT Guide program after a period of 10 weeks. You will then complete a post-test survey (6 weeks after baseline) and a follow-up survey (10 weeks after baseline).

If you choose to participate, you will receive a $5 Amazon gift card after completing the baseline survey and program registration, another $15 Amazon gift card after completing the post-test survey, and another $30 Amazon gift card for the follow-up survey.

Each survey will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. Each session of the ACT Guide program will take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete, and we recommend doing one session per week. Thus, it will take 3-4 hours total to complete all 6 sessions over a 6-week period.

In order to be eligible you must:
  • Be ≥ 18 years old
  • Currently be living in the U.S.
  • Self-report having at least 1 chronic health condition such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic pain, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV, Parkinson’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, chronic kidney disease, stroke, or self-reported other chronic health condition
  • Self-report having had the chronic health condition for ≥ 3 months
  • Be able to access the internet via computer, mobile phone, or tablet
  • Have an interest in using an online mental health intervention

This study takes place entirely online and does not require any face-to-face contact. For more information please click the link above or contact the study coordinator at [email protected].

The Principal Investigator for this study is Dr. Michael Levin ([email protected]) and this study has been approved by the USU IRB (#13890).
