Treatment of Misophonia Study

We are currently seeking adults with misophonia for a study on how to treat this condition. Misophonia is the name for when individuals struggle with anger, rage, disgust, and/or annoyance in response to sounds made by other people (including but not limited to chewing, breathing, tapping, clearing throat, drinking, etc.)
 
Participation will involve:
  • Completing an initial survey and clinical assessment
  • Completing a hearing assessment
  • Being randomly assigned to: receiving 12 sessions of a treatment focused on muscle relaxation or 12 sessions of a treatment focused on thoughts/feelings
  • Completing three clinical assessments and four surveys over the course of 10 months

In order to be eligible, you must:
  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have at least mild symptoms of misophonia
  • Fluent in English
  • Not currently receiving treatment for misophonia
  • Be on the same dose of any relevant medications for misophonia for at least 30 days (if you are taking medication)

Please note that participation is completely up to you, and you can withdraw from the study at any time without penalty. You can receive up to $155 for completing all surveys in the study. The total time commitment for the study is approximately 21 hours over 10 months.
